ABNER PREIS

The Super Hero project led the artist Abner Preis to different cities all over the world. His job is to tear passengers away from their daily routine and inspire them to live their own superhero phantasies. The artist captures and documents the change of perspective and the magical moment when passengers interrupt their daily life to transform into a superhero. Continue reading

Alexandra Kisselkova

Born in Siberia in 1976, Alexandra Kisselkova lives and works as a freelance artist and photographer in Cologne. Having travelled a lot, she gathered experiences in various areas, such as art, photography and fashion. Being a member of the Lightwriting collective Lichtfaktor her graphic handwriting appears in numerous Stopmotion clips on video sharing websites and in advertising spots. Continue reading

AMOSE

AMOSE began studying Art in 1996 at the Institut St Luc in Belgium and specialised in Graphics and visual arts. His work portrays editing the human body: he stretches, extends and deforms it. He then deconstructs the human body by using and entwining further artistic elements, patterns and characteristics. This leads his work to take on a dynamic, yet sometimes abstract character. BASCO VAZKO

At the age of 14 the Chilean artist Basco Vazko already painted in the streets of Santiago. The strong influence by Southamerican artists had a positive impact in his artistic development. His unique style is affected by scarred figures in distorted posititions or abstract shapes that remind the viewer of the human body. Most of his works stand out due to their simplicity and confrontational playfulness. Continue reading

BLU

Since the nineties BLU has been active as a street artist. He is worldwide known for his epic murals and detailed Stop Trick Clips. With his large comical figures, he began to leave his impression in many countries. In his artwork one can always encounter an attempt to communicate with the public or the search for a place’s uniqueness. He extended his artistic repertoire further with his numerous drawings. CAPTAIN BORDERLINE

The Cologne artistic collective Captain Borderline has been present on the international street art scene for ten years. In their work they portray the existent borderlines in society and in the cooperative train of thought in order to then erase these with new, creative ideas. They liven up the public urban space with their paste up art or large murals, which are of social critical and ironic character. Continue reading

Claudio Ethos

The work of the artist Claudio Ethos from Sao Paulo focuses on painting and sketching. He is well-known for his murals and graffiti which are emphasized by tones of black, white and soft colours. He has been an Urban Art artist for ten years and since 2008 he has held regular exhibitions in Europe and the United States. Continue reading

Dal

The academic sculptor DAL (Pseudonym) has been dedicated to Urban Art since 2004. At a first glance, his artistic works that are to be found on walls appear to be painted: giant creatures and parasites in a wire garment jump out of the wall. Only at a second glance does one perceive the entwined sculpture. Continue reading

EL BOCHO

El Bocho is an illustrator and typographer by day, by night he switches to a different medium and the city becomes his “playground”. Communication and reference to urban life are the main components of his work. In his portrait series “Citizen“  El Bocho immerses into the field of thought of city people and he situates a thematic correspondent for each of his canvases in the urban area. Continue reading

EMESS

The works of Berlin artist EMESS question customs and habits. He fights against forgetfulness in the Age of Media by means of adbustings, stencil work, large format paste-ups, oversized wooden installations. His odyssey leads the former master craftsman of Berlin’s University of the Arts through the city cosmos. Here he indefatigably investigates the design possibilities of public places and the effects they cause. Continue reading

ENIVO

ENIVO first experimented with graffiti in his youth. From then on he has left his poetic marks in the cities’ streets. Later on he completed his studies in Visual Arts at the Paulista School of Art. ENIVO follows intuition, experimentalism and captures the moment in his artwork. For him, his art presents a cycle of styles that range and then come back. Continue reading

ESCIF

With influences coming from mural painting, Escif´s work falls in a category of “urban language”, mainly articulated throught the recuperation and appropiation of forgotten and disused spaces. He use illustration as a line of thought, an attempt at facing up to fears, reflections, restlessness and personal contradictions. Continue reading

Faces on Book

One day the artist drew a picture of a friend to post it anonymously on facebook and the idea for “Faces on Book” was born. Using different synonyms, he created more sketches and posted them on the profile of the person in question.Nowadays more than 700 of his facebook portraits exists. The project “Faces on Book” provides a self-satisfied thought-provoking impulse regarding the topics voyeurism and waste of time. Continue reading

Faith47

Faith47 is a self-taught artist who draws inspiration from her own existential questions. Her art takes on the form of metaphor. Her deep affinity with lost spaces allows her to gracefully bring attention to the most humble of environments. Initially recognized for her unique graffiti and street art work, Faith is fast establishing herself internationally, showing in galleries and participating in projects worldwide. Continue reading

Herakut

Herakut are the artists hera and akut that have been working together since 2004. The starting point of their cooperative artistic work is Urban Art. In the meantime their artwork takes place indoors and for interior spaces, the spray can remains a fixed element of their work. Their artwork covers painting, as well as collages and space consuming installations. They compose their own world that is confined within itself, full of melancholy and profound humour. Herbert Baglione

In each of his works, Herbert Baglione creates a universe of urban chaos. His work lies in analyzing the behavior of man versus his environment. The viewer is attracted by the lines and curves in black and white that subtly expresse the relationship between man and city. Continue reading

HOLZ51

44flavours & KLUB7 work in parallel creative universes independently utilizing similar methods and creating childlike-naive works. They met in Berlin in 2008 and together they formed the lucky number 51. Continue reading

Inti

Latin-American murals and graffiti from the 1990s influenced Inti’s artistic orientation. Since 2008 he has been travelling outside of South America with his artwork. However, South America is still his main source of inspiration. His most recent works portray iconographic elements and colours that remind one of the original inhabitants of Latin America. He combines these factors with graffiti’s illustrative and vectorial aesthetics. Continue reading

Jan Vormann

Jan Vormann has been travelling the world with his „Dispatchwork“ since 2007. The artist “repairs” the holes in damaged walls with colourful plastic building bricks. His short-lived repair technique offers a humorous alternative approach to public spaces. JIAR

It is impossible to ignore JIAR’s „rootedness“ in Graffiti Culture. Since the 90s his work has been present in urban areas. From 2006 onwards, he held his first exhibition and his work can be found in galleries since that time. He works with both analogue and digital media. His graffiti, video animations, his project “Lichtfaktor” (light factor) portray the versatility of his artistic accomplishments. Continue reading

Jim Avignon

From his artistic roots of Comic- and Poster art Jim Avignon developed into one of the most varied personalities in the current art and music scene. His sarcastic and humorous style is unique; he manages to cut complex topics down on the essential. Considered as forceful conceptional artist, he already found his way into musea all over the world. Jon Burgerman

The British artist Jon Burgerman has developed into a protagonist of the scene. He mixes up different disciplines of Urban art and has already won several significant awards. His works distinguish themselves by their dry and often self-ironic humour. They can be admired in galleries, bedrooms, cinemas and on iPhone-screens all over the world. Continue reading

L.E.T.

Being a member of the graffiti scene first, the artist L.E.T (Les Entfants Terribles) switched to Streetart in the beginning of the 90s. Left-winged stencils of the Cuban revolution inspired his technique. In his humorous stencils, silkscreens and drawings he alienates familiar motivs and shows them in a new context. Since 2000 his works have been displayed in numerous group and solo exhibitions in the USA, Japan and Europe. Continue reading

Laguna

Lake

After the Fall of the Wall, Lake began discovering the urban free spaces in Berlin. Driven by his interest for figurative painting he refined his style crucially. Classic design and colouring are broken open and abstracted further. The Unleashing of the individuum from the bonds of social behaviour patterns is the focus of his work. Continue reading

Lichtfaktor

Lichtfaktor is a collective of versatile talents – going from photography, graffiti and computerart to artistry and dance. Well-known forms of expression merge with novel technologies and are set up in a new context. Always searching for interdisciplinary and innovative forms of expression regarding creativity, they manage to fascinate the viewer in a very unfamiliar way. Continue reading

Lucy McLauchlan

Lucy McLauchlan’s art work can be admired all over the world in galleries, museums and within the scope of underground art events. The artist transforms the environment with her unique monochrome paintings, whilst simultaneously reacting to the distinctive character of the surfaces. Hereby, murals, sculptures and installations develop in every imaginable place – from a remote tunnel to the pike of a water tower. Continue reading

Lukas Schmidt

Lukas Schmidt belongs to the group of young local talents who will be presented at the CityLeaks festival. Accompanied by his tool – the spray can – he preferably works on industrial wasteland and derelict train stations. Here, he carefully arranges large areas of organically morbid shapes in modest colours, so that it seems like the elements naturally blend with the background of the urban scenery. Continue reading

Morcky

Morcky puts his artistic attention on composition, perspective and dynamics. Born in Italy, he has been living in Amsterdam since 2002 where he is working on wall-paintings, illustrations and videos. The dominance of black and white often characterizes his art. Morcky tells stories that do not reveal their full meaning, unless the viewer takes a journey through his works. Continue reading

Mr. Trash

By including photo-realistic elements in his work, Mr. Trash experiments with different materials. With the help of typography they are revised further. The spray can nevertheless remains the most important component of his experimental photorealistic form of expression. Nils Müller

In his photographies Nils Müller picks the world of trainwriting as the supreme discipline of the graffiti scene as his central theme. For years he has been accompanying international graffiti crews and his works provide a silent insight into fascinating moments between the spirit of adventure, anonymity and talkativeness of the writers. His photographies are a narration’s fragments about criminality, identity and solidarity of the discreet graffiti subculture. Continue reading

OVNI

Born and raised in Barcelona, OVNI’s artistic work is home in the world of galleries as well as on the streets. Paintings, murals, illustrations and installations – everything can be seen in the studied graphic-designer’s work. In the course of the last years she continously worked on “mental landscapes”. Pau Quintanajornet

Born in Chile in 1982, Pau Quintanajornet nowadays lives and works in Cologne. Questioning her own identity always stands in the forground of her work – no matter whether the work is on walls or , more intimate, on wood. Rakaposhii

Rakaposhii wants to break through routines and habits. The artist from Cologne contrasts a predictable and other-directed life with change. He has commited himself to humankind and wants to galvanise: “The works should help people to escape their everyday stream of thought for a moment.” Public Space provides the communication platform for this project. Rami Meiri

Rami Meiri is considered to be the most eminent mural artist in Israel. His paintings are characterized by blurring the  borders between reality and illusion. The paintings correspond harmoniously with the physical surroundings. Rami uses wall textures and structure features to increase the scale of perception. The work proposes illusional architecture to urban structures. His goal is instant communication between the artwork and city by passers. Continue reading

RIPO

RIPO grew up in NYC and currently lives in Barcelona. His rhetoric is of a questioning rather than an answering nature – a hint of sarcasm and humour beneath the surface. His calligraphic wordplay can be found on city walls, in remote villages and fallows in more than 36 countries in three continents. Continue reading

ROA

Animals are in the centre of Roa’s art. He feels especially attracted to “common” animals. With the help of his tremendous paintings he manages to vitalise birds, rats, pigs and other animals in the urban space. Roa is fascinated in particular by their diversity in representation, their metaphorical strengh as well as by the peaceful-morbid mode of the circle of life. Continue reading

Rodrigo Branco

Rodrigo Branco from Sao Paulo works as an artist, phtographer and art teacher for social projects. His artistic work was inspired and initiated by graffiti in his neighbourhood. He livens up his portraits by using intense colours and strong lines that function to translate the seen and to question life in the outlying districts of Sao Paolo. Continue reading

Roland Schmitz

Roland Schmitz works with different material in an experimental way, always driven by the intention to elicit their soul. Sam3

Sam3 is known for creating massive scale silhouettes in urban spaces. He refers to his dramatic black and white works as “shadows.” The absence of defining details in his paintings allows for him not only to work quickly, but also makes the message more accessible. Smash137

Suiss artist Smash 137 is considered being one of the most important active ‘style writers’ in Europe. His unique ‘letter styles’ and colour combination are what made him famous. In his pieces the dynamic of change becomes noticeable. The graduated graphic designer does not rest on his lorels but always takes his art to new levels. Stefan Strumbel

Stephan Strumbel incorporates traditional motives from his home area, the black forest, into his work: cuckoo clock, wooden masks of the German carnival and the typical crucifix of catholic households. He overdraws them with stylistic elements of Urban Art as well as Pop art and puts them into a new and sometimes provocative context. He deals with paradigms of “home” on an abstract level and questions the concept behind all that. Continue reading

THOMAS BAUMGÄRTEL

Thomas Baumgärtel is one of Germany’s most famous sprayers. His subversive missions, performances and public appearances are a symbol of the freedom that art expresses against commercialist and elitist structures. The yellow banana symbol can be found everywhere. It marks art locations all over the world – the unofficial logo for legal and illegal art in public places. Continue reading

Van Ray

In the end of the 90s Van Ray started spraying graffiti. Inspired by the Parisian Pochoir-Movement that uses art in public space  as an expression for social criticism he started focussing his work (stencils, stickers. posters, sculptures) on political statements. His current works involve different techniques ( stencils, collage, decollage or acrylic or wooden boards) and combine streetart, popart and neoexpressionism. Continue reading

WILL BARRAS

The curator Harlan Levey compares Will Barras to a revolver hero that conquers the world armed with a paint brush. In his work he explores his talent as a draughtsman and illustrator and one encounter the association of action painting as well as abstract and figurative elements. Continue reading

Yaikel

After finishing the artschool Finnis Terrae with commendation in 2006, Yaikel founded the Angamos ART Studio. In cooperation with friends from artschool and the graffiti scene, group exhibitions that made guest appearances in numerous galleries in South America and Europe were realised. Yaikels works bring back basic things: our earth, nature, plants and animals and eventually the focus on form and colour. Continue reading

ZEDZ

Zedz, an artist based in Amsterdam, focuses on materialising graffiti by transforming it from a two-dimensional into a three-dimensional entity. His works are based on typography, and can be seen as a quest to develop new ways of presenting his name. The results are often expressive and playful. Rhythm, shape and dimensionality play an important role. However, the readability of his name Zedz is always the core of the piece of art.
