CityLeaks Guided Tours

Regarding the high demand the CityLeaks team will be offering further guided tours to the festival murals each weekend starting at 08.10.2011.

Colours of the Wall

The Kolbhalle venue will be starting off the CityLeaks Festival in September with “Colours of the Wall”. From 9-11 September a line-up of national artists will be making their mark on the walls provided: Captain Borderline, The Pony, Octagon, Kire, Enorm, Color, MrTrash and lots more. Bassliebe & Community will be keeping the artists and visitors entertained with their DJ sets. On Friday 9 September you can party the night away to the sound of electronic beats. Continue reading →

Workshop

During the Cityleaks Festival the OT-Nonni youth facility (Cologne’s Catholic Youth Organisation) in Ehrenfeld are organising a grafitti workshop for youngsters run by the MittwochsMaler. The MittwochsMaler is an independent graffiti project financed by the Cologne SKM (Social Service of Catholic Men). This is an ongoing offer at Lucky‘s Haus in Cologne-Bilderstöckchen – and part of the hip-hop network in Nippes. As a youth art project the group was created in 2005 with the aim of drawing attention to youth culture and having a preventive effect: through contacts from the scene, explanation of the consequences of illegal spraying and by providing legal areas and weekly workshops with a focus on art and creativity. Screening: „Next. A Primer On Urban Painting“

The filmmaker Pablo Aravena researches urban culture in its multifaceted dimensions, be it in his action and documentary films or as a Street Art curator. In his documentary „NEXT: a Primer on Urban Painting“ he submerges into the world of Urban Art and portrays a cross-section of this art form in the USA, Canada, France, The Netherlands, Germany, England, Spain, Japan and Brazil. Vernissage @ Kolbfabrik

A group exhibition with artists Markus Krips, Michael Reinker, Servet Dogan, Paul Simon, Jamila Maranon, Uli Schulz, and more. The exhibition will be opening with the preview on 16 September in the Kolbhalle venue in Ehrenfeld. Cityleaks Aftershowparty

After your tour around the CityLeaks galleries and exhibition spaces we are cordially inviting you to the after-show party. We’re really looking forward to welcoming the two artists Jim Avignon and Jon Burgerman who will be presenting us with a New York style music performance as their joint electro-pop project Anxieteam. Visual highlights will be supplied by Cologne-based VJ Sehvermögen (from the Lichtfaktor crew) who is presenting Jim Avignon’s art, CityLeaks impressions and a range of animations in his multi- surface projections. And the Bassliebe crew will be responsible for providing the accompanying low-frequency soundtrack.

Cityleaks Vernissage

Lively, rich in colour and illimitable – that is the Latin American art scene. Its metropolises, such as São Paulo, Santiago de Chile or Rio de Janeiro continuously come up with innovative and talented artists. This may have something to do with the lust for life and the artistic affinity of the people, but the driving force may also be the freedom that other street artists on the other side of the Atlantic savour. At the popular Club Bahnhof Ehrenfeld CityLeaks artists will be let loose on the indoor and outdoor areas accompanied by the sound of live acts. A laid-back get-together with a BBQ and good weather will provide the setting for three musical highlights! We are welcoming two special stars from the Los Angeles soul scene – Dudley Perkins & Georgia Ann Muldrow, Cologne producers and DJ collective RadioLoveLove will be heating things up behind the decks and the new project from Curse „The Achtung Achtung“ will be presenting their stage show in Cologne for the first time. Music Performance Jim Avignon

Music performance by the artist Jim Avignon. With his live musical scoring of the silent film “Berlin: Symphony of a Metropolis” (1927, Walter Ruttmann) artist Jim Avignon will be creating a visual sound experience at the Herz Jesu Church near Zülpicher Platz. The experimental documentary film by Walter Ruttmann premiered in September 1927 in Berlin and describes one day in the capital of Germany, a city which experienced an industrial boom in the 1920s. The work by Ruttmann portrays the metropolis as a living organism and as an analogy to a symphony. Continue reading →

Cityleaks Symposium

The public space as a place for dialogue, as a place that can be designed and in which we move every day, is the starting point of our conference. What meaning do urban practices and strategies acquire in the appropriation of a place? Which negotiaitons of place play a role in everyday cooperation? And what is the position of art in this debate? Urban Art as a form of art that interacts with physical space has great potential in view of debates about „“public space““. Finissage Cityleaks-Air

Finally, the crowds will be heading to Deutz-Air in the Mülheim harbour. Visitors can create their own designs at the workstations and during live silkscreen printing. The ComeTogether Soundsystem will be taking care of the musical entertainment in the afternoon. In the evening the lights will be switched off and the projectors switched on. And Jonathan Hähn’s installations will be emitting sonorous figures while Mathias Schaffhäuser, a forerunner of Cologne’s techno scene, will be getting the night’s line-up off to a fine start. Rising star and Berlin producer Jakob Korn is presenting the live highlight, before Ampersand brings down the house!
